Domestic Violence Argumentative Essay TopicsWhile working at the University of California San Diego, I conducted research on the topic of domestic violence and essay topics. As it turned out, a lot of my students were really interested in working at UC San Diego, but were concerned about how they would make their points and have time to write. In the interests of finding a way to get both sides of the argument, I developed a project where we could study both the positive and negative sides of each side, as well as the pros and cons of the law. To do this, we had to look at both good and bad things about the topic.We would talk to parents, high school students, and college students about the debate topic of domestic violence. We would do this by meeting with a group of people in the community who would be willing to talk about the subject matter. We would ask a series of questions to them about the topic of domestic violence and then have an argumentative essay on the topic. We were h oping that students who were using the topic as an opportunity to express their views would be able to make arguments that showed that they had both sides of the argument, as well as supporting their position. Some would be angry, some would be sympathetic, and some would be indifferent to the topic, while still believing that domestic violence was a problem.After we did this project, we went to work looking at the balance between what some groups had to say about domestic violence and what others said. Most of the people in our focus group would agree that there are many positives about domestic violence. But, there were also some who thought it was not a good thing.Other groups felt that domestic violence is actually quite a good thing, that there are positive benefits to domestic violence, and that many abusers actually know that they shouldn't be doing this, and still get arrested for it. These groups felt that domestic violence is indeed a crime, and that those who are responsi ble for domestic violence are usually horrible human beings. In addition, they also felt that there were many positive aspects of domestic violence that you should pay attention to.Now, you may be wondering how we were going to decide between these two topics when the topic was one of society's view of domestic violence. It's quite simple. We would compare the positives to the negatives and then choose a neutral point of view. We decided to use a set of five points that each group used to make their argument. The point of this method was to show both sides of the argument, to compare and contrast, and to be fair and unbiased.The first piece of our final report was to show that everyone's opinion on the topic of domestic violence varied. Some people were completely against domestic violence, while others said it should be legalized and a right. On the other hand, there were others who said that even legalized domestic violence is a crime and should be punished. These people would the n be given points that they could use in their argumentative essay. By taking this approach, we were able to give students the opportunity to express their opinions and beliefs on the topic, as well as compare and contrast, and come up with a conclusion.In our debate class, I would compare this concept to saying that each of the five points had a distinct meaning. Then, I would have a variety of students to write essays on a specific point or several points, and I would compare the number of papers written by students on a particular topic. I would then give the student the highest number, and the student with the least number would win. In doing this, we were trying to look at both sides of the issue, and determine which perspective represented the majority view. And in doing so, we were able to have a positive debate about this topic.
